Introducing- 'Oona'

I know, it's been quite awhile since I've been here, sometimes as you know, life gets in the way, my husband is quite ill, so we are in the middle of a huge battle but as always we're staying positive.
I'm trying to keep busy, I have always found art and crafts, especially doll making, a way to get my mind off things and a massive comfort.
This is my latest creation, I started her quite awhile ago, now she is finally done.

Oona is cheerful and friendly Elf,
she lives in gardens and parks where roses,
camellias and violets grow.

She brings peace and happiness to those lucky enough to see her, but she can only be seen when the sun has almost set and there's that pinkish, purple glow in the sky.
She wears purple and pearly white with hints of
pink and green.
Her iridescent wings have a hint of blue
that sparkle in the light.

She sometimes carries her umbrella to protect from the dew and those darn cats.

Animals love her.........

Spring is here in Australia and getting very warm already.
What I love about Spring is daylight savings time, I love having that extra daylight, which I usually spend walking or in my garden, I have over 60 rose plants, about 16 camellias and various other plants, so it's keeps my husband and myself pretty busy, especially me as he's a shift worker, but I love it.
Here are some of my roses just bloomed.....

Of course, I've been working on a few things too, I've been playing with polymer clay... here's are a few dolls I made-                                                                                  PIPPO,  a cute Christmas Elf.....  he's 28 cm (11") tall

AUGST, the Jester, 35 cm (13.5")

and I've made a new cloth doll, but she's a bit different to my usual cloth dolls, she starts with a armature the same as the clay dolls-

ALICE- DRINK & EAT ME  28 cm (11") tall

Recently I attended a Life Drawing and Sculpture workshop with my 2 daughters, I was a bit worried about drawing a naked person, I have never done anything like this.
I was pleasantly surprised in how much we enjoyed the day.
We arrived at 10 am, picked an easel and chatted with the model.
Our instructor made the students draw swirly lines and circles on paper while holding the pencil not how one would normally hold a pencil but as shown....... not a good hand pic but I'm sure you get the idea......

This way you use your whole arm to draw, we practiced for a way, a good warm up.
Then we began to draw, with some tips this is what I came up with..

After lunch we went to the 'Clay House', where we sculpted what we drew, it turned out better that I expected, now I can't wait until we get our 3 sculpts back from being fired, I will share the pics with you soon.

How is 2013 going for you all, I have had a very enjoyable few months with family and friends.
Have spent a lot of time eating (too much), drinking and laughing with the special people in my life.
My eldest daughter, Stephanie left for Mexico and Argentina on Dec.1 and will return March 12th, for her studies, you don't realise how much you miss your kids until they are away.
Have been a little creative with my beautiful cousin Sandra (seated), we made these clay heads, which we now have hanging in our gardens....

-Pic.1 was my first attempt which I quite like.

Pic. 2 is Sandra's piece, she has always been so artisitic,
so of course this is gorgeous-

this is my 2nd go, but I don't like this one very much.....

We used air dry paper clay, when dry, we painted with 'stone effect' paint we found at Bunnings.....

Anyway, I want this year to be full of new endeavors and I want to try new things, but the last couple of weeks I've been telling myself, now it's time to get creative and get myself motivated, I've started working on a new doll, will share pics soon.
I'm determined to dive into some collage art, more clay experimentation and more new art dolls.....
and I'm going to post on this blog much more so stay tuned....

By the way, why not take a class, check out my workshops running at the moment.

A few months ago my husband and I went to Bowral, a beautiful town in the Southern Highlands of N..S.W. (Australia), approx. and hour drive from my place. It's a rural retreat for the elite gentry of Sydney, resulting in the establishment of many historic estates and manor houses in the district.               We had a very nice day, the tulips were beautiful, I took some photos to share with you......
